Sarrebourg. Fencing, digital code: the "court vegetable gardens" are once again available for rental

In Sarrebourg, the communal gardens behind the courthouse have existed for many years. "It's a service we offer to our fellow citizens who have green fingers," recalls Hervé Kamalski , Deputy Mayor for Works, Urban Planning, Forestry, and Hunting. But little by little, the site had transformed into an (urban) jungle. The fence had been torn down, and the area was being used as a shortcut. The site was therefore put on hold for a year to remedy the situation. "We were between a dump and a second home. We removed a lot of old stuff, sheds, etc. The land was plowed, and the plots, marked with a cut stone, were redivided." The gardens are once again surrounded by a fence. Access is via two gates equipped with a digital code.

A well, fed by a spring, has been restored and secured. A hand pump draws water from it to water the vegetable gardens.

No huts are planned. "They come at a certain cost and reduce the size of the plots." These are rented for €15/year for plots under 60 m2, and €30/year for plots over 60 m2. Twenty-two plots are rented out of the twenty-five available. The former tenants (very eager to get back to working the land) had priority in the allocation of gardens. The three remaining plots will not be available until next year. Until then, they will allow passage during work to extend the district heating network.
